Steel rope is among the most important components of gantry cranes and it is very important to properly use and maintain steel ropes. In general, make sure:

 (1) Steel ropes are packed in coils before leaving the factory and properly uncoiled without twists or knots.

 (2) There are measures to prevent the strands from spreading when a steel rope is cut.

 (3) The steel rope is hauled in a clean place rather than wound around other objects and is protected against cutting, wear, crushing and over-bending at the time of installation.

 (4) The steel rope maintains a well-lubricated condition. When the steel rope is working, grease will seep out of the rope core into the gaps of the steel rope, thus reducing wear between steel wires. There is also grease on the outside of the steel rope to reduce the wear between it and the drum or pulley.

 (5) Regularly used steel ropes are checked every day, including the two locked ends of the rope and the compensating pulley, and the safety judgment is made.

 (6) The steel ropes are protected against loss of performance due to damages, corrosion or other physical and chemical factors.

 (7) The steel rope of the original design model, diameter and parameters is used for replacement.
